The Island of Chaldea

 The island of Chaldea
Author: Diana Wynnde jones
March 31 2014
Review

The book Island of Chaldea takes place in two worlds, where one is realistic and the others is fantasy. I think that this book takes place in 2013 because its seemed like its in the 2000s and it reminds me that people invented technology which means time travel into the future since time travel exists in fantasy

There are three main characters. Aileen is a 13 year old girl who’s nice and sweet, but when it come to missions she is really not that interested but she’s really brave and has no fear. Aunt Beck is a 36 year old woman who’s adventurous. She goes on quests, and she also is very brave and not scared. Ivar is a young boy who is Aileen’s annoying cousin who’s spoiled but she still likes him.

Aunt Beck has magical powers that Aileen does not know about but when the kings come into Aunt Becks house the kings tell her she has to go to on a mission to save a king. Aunt Beck agrees and drags Aileen and ivar with her. They travel to another magical land where they have to try to save the king and find clues but Aileen does not know that she has something special. Are they ever going to find the king and will they make it out alive?

I like this book but I didn’t love it because the writer used too many descriptive words and  not telling the story but once your used to it you know what happened. And it’s interesting but not exciting.

Middle School: How I Survive Bullies, Broccoli, And Snake Hill

Middle School: How I Survived Bullies, Broccoli, And Snake Hill

By: James Patterson And Chris Tebbetts

This story, Middle School: How I Survived Bullies, Broccoli, And Snake Hill, takes place in the summer months at Camp Wannamorra. Camp Wannamorra is a place where kids with bad behaviors go and spend the whole summer there. My gut told me that this story took place in the summer of 2013 because of how the words and the story emmerged together. The story moves along the weeks until Rafe, the main character got expelled.
Rafe is a boy, which seems as though he is around 12 years old, who loves to break rules that seemed unintelligent to him. His mom wanted him to go to Camp Wannamorra for his poor behavior. He spent his summer in the Muskrat Hut along with Norman (Booger Eater), Jake (Dweebs), Cavanaugh (Cav), Jose (Smurf), Noah (Tunz), Justin (Bombardier), Legend, and Doolin, the name-calling bully. Doolin was from the Bobcat Hut who doesn’t get busted after something he did wrong. Rafe would be the one who gets into trouble for what he hasn’t done.
Rafe’s mom encourages him and his sister to participate in Camp Wannamorra. He was lonely at first but he made a group of friends at the Muskrat Hut pretty quickly. Once they walked into the Chow Pit (cafeteria), Doolin and the Bobcats were ambling toward the Chow Pit yelling “DEAD MEAT!” repeatedly because they were name-calling the Muskrats. The Muskrats were trying their best to ignore the Bobcats. During one of the evenings, the Bobcats were making the Muskrat Hut gross and dirty. Once learning at school had commenced from the camp, Rafe came to a class and perceived an exquisite teacher and then he can’t stop thinking about her.
The life lesson in this book is not to be a name-calling bully because you might think it doesn’t hurt anyone because it came out of your mouth, not physically but it actually hurt him or her on the inside.
I think that this is an awesome book to read because it relates to the life lesson we need to learn and some of the pages are hilarious. I definitely think this book, Middle School: How I Survived Bullies, Broccoli, And Snake Hill, belongs to the genre, Humor because I think that this book can cheer anyone up at anytime.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Diary Of Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
By. Jeff Kinney
This story is about a boy named Greg, Greg want to be cool but he is sort of a jerk. In the book Greg is wondering if he could get through the school year without embarrassing himself. Rodrick is an insolent sixteen year old jerk and loves to play drums, he also has his own band called Loded Diper. Rowley is Greg’s only friend but he is a happy and loyal to his friends and family, Greg also wanted to change him to someone else but he never did!
This story started with Greg going back to school. People won’t get near, then he remembers he still has the cheese touch from last year! Manny, Greg is younger brother always gets things and Greg think its because if Manny is not treated well he will turn into Rodrick. Greg made a mistake and pulled out his book with the word Diary on it and Rodrick took it and then tripped, Greg grabbed his diary and went and locked himself in the women’s bathroom. Greg got caught on camera and Rodrick has the tape, so will his school know about it?
This took place at a school named Westmore and in Greg house. Greg sometimes goes to Rowley’s house. He also went to the church and he went in his mom’s car too.
I like the book because it tell you to get closer to your sibling and to help around when your friends need you! Also because its talks about how if you want to be treated well then treat other well.

Light Land

Light Land
A Review
By: H.L. McCutchen

In this book, Light Land there are two main characters. Lottie is a girl; she is a strong girl that stands up for her best friend Lewis. She always has the top score in every class, but she always wears her PJs to school. Her memories are always clear; she remembers everything that she sees. Although she has good memories, she never had memories of her mother. Lewis on the other hand, Lewis is the opposite gender of Lottie. He is just like Lottie except he doesn’t speak at all. He just gives a nod or a shake for his answer. So Lottie has to speak up for him. When his Father disappeared, Lewis never once spoke again. He also has good grades just like Lottie. He isn’t very communicative to others. He has been friends with Lottie since Kindergarten.
Lottie lives in a little house besides Lewis’s house.  They live in an Iowa cornfield, and go to school together. Clearly, the story mostly takes place in Light Land where it is very grassy, there are not much trees there.
Lottie’s dad found a story box that looked like the deep color of Lottie’s cherry tree. Lottie told Lewis about the story box, after school they got out the story box and got transported to Light Land. When they are transported to Light Land it was night, Lottie got transported back by sleeping but she was the only one that got out of Light Land. Lewis on the other hand was trapped and there he made a new little friend. His name was October; he was a little mouse that wanted freedom from the Night King that controls Light Land’s memories. They say Night King doesn’t have memories himself, so he tries to steal other people memories.
I liked this book because I used to not like fantasy books or movies, but now when I read this book, I came to love fantasy books. When I finished reading the book t was like ‘Poof’ sparkles everywhere on the book. I kind of like the writing style, because it has some variety in sentence starters, and some juicy words that gets the picture in your mind. I think the theme of the life lesson in this book is about helping each other to gain everyone’s freedom, and helping each other out to escape. That book was like a new door opened to my mind. This book is a really good book to read if your mood is all confused with things and don’t know what to do, because the same thing happened to a character in this book. My book actually made me want to read the second book of Light Land.

The Meanwhile Adventures

The Meanwhile Adventures

By: Roddy Doyle

The Meanwhile Adventure is an adventure book where the Mack family is going on different adventures of their own and had little problems in between. It takes place in Dublin, where the Mack family lives, in jail and in Beijing China. In Dublin every kids had to be with a guardian or the kids will be put into the orphanage.
This story is mostly based on Mister Mack put into jail and his wife Billie Jean breaking a record. Mister Mack is an inventor but a not so good one.  He invented a saw that cuts wood but was mistaken as a machine gun. He was an ex-prisoner for a misunderstanding. By the descriptions in the book I infer that Mister Mack is in his early 30s. Billie Jean is an independent and strong woman. She enjoys breaking records everyday and loves aiming for perfection. Referring to the book, I think she might be in her late 20s.
Mister Mack was put into jail for a misunderstanding at the bank. He was put into jail because his saw looked like a machine gun and everyone thought he was going to rob the bank. While that happen Billie Jean was running around the world trying to break a record of First Women To Run Across The World Without Telling Anyone. It was up to their children to get Mister Mack out of Prison and to find Billie Jean before the orphan catcher catches them.
The theme of this book is to not give if something is too hard and that you can get help along the way too. Like Billie Jean never gave up when the woman trying to beat her ran pass her. She tried harder and ran faster. Mister Mack did not give up when he couldn’t get out of jail and had some help on the way.
I didn’t like this book because it didn’t have lots of descriptive writing and when the author kept on interrupting during the story. I also didn’t like this book because the author switched from one situation and then to the other. I would recommend this book to someone who likes adventure books but this one was not my type.
